Week of October 7-14

Just have to say again how much we are enjoying soccer! Maelle is on a great team who have wonderful team spirit and love encouraging one another. We have been focusing on remaining interested in the game and cheering for her team-mates even when she is not on the field. Pictured is coach Jay presenting the weekly "Player of the Game" trophy, as well as a spontaneous team huddle at the end of one of their tournament games. It's a pleasure to see the girls working together and improving alongside of each other.

Auntie Arleigh returned from living in the Philippines for the past two years and brought back some souvenirs from her trip to Hong Kong, including paper lanterns and "mooncakes", traditionally eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival which Arleigh was able to attend. Maelle was not too sure of the taste, but she gave it a try!

We went for a beautiful fall walk at Kinsol Trestle up near Shawnigan Lake with Auntie Arleigh and Auntie Sheena.

The kids have been LOVING Cosmic Kids Yoga lately. They would do it for hours a day if they could, I think. Occasionally mom or dad join in too!

Maelle has been progressing with her math lessons in the Mathseeds program. These are the names of her most recent lessons, with links to PDFs describing the lessons in detail:

Lesson 64: Money, Part 1
Lesson 65: Add to 20
Lesson 66: Halves & Fourths
Lesson 67: Counting 30-40
Lesson 71: Sharing
Lesson 72: Doubles, Part 2
Lesson 74: Grouping
Lesson 75: Counting 40-50

She was having difficulty remembering the values for each type of coin, so she wrote herself a key to help her remember. Maelle is fairly resistant to printing, which I believe is mostly due to a lack of practice. We are going to try to gently press more regular printing practice in order to overcome this.

Maelle plays Minecraft - I asked her what she enjoys about it and she said that she likes building stuff and creating challenges for herself, like how to contain the very large pack of wolves that she spawned.

On Friday, Maelle went to tea with two very special women: her Nana AND her Granny. What a treat!
